The National Defence University (NDU) is a premier institution of security, geostrategic, and strategic studies for higher education under the patronage of the Joint Staff Headquarters (JS HQ), Pakistan. It is funded by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. NDU is intended to facilitate high-level training, education, and the development of national security strategy. The NDU is chartered by the President of Pakistan as its Chancellor, and the management of the NDU is vested in a high-ranking three-star officer from the Pakistan Armed Forces who is designated as the President of the University. As of current, Lieutenant-General Agha Muhammad Umer Farooq of Pakistan Army is serving as its current President. It is located in Islamabad, Pakistan.
