Samarah tariq CIE Exams 2011 Pakistani Student sets world record

Art reaches beyond all social, cultural and religious bounds and so its significance is far-reaching and profound. Where people may think that the importance of arts is ebbing away, Samrah Tariq proves it otherwise.

Setting a world record in CIE exams 2011 in Arts, Samarah, from Happy Home School, Karachi, is the only student from Pakistan to have set benchmarks of accomplishments and achieved CIE Outstanding Achievers Awards this year.

In a subject less opted in Pakistan yet drawing enormous traction through out the world, Samarah’s achievement has only manifested the fact that despite lack of rudimentary encouragement and incentives, Pakistan’s got burgeoning talent that wins its way through all hurdles.

“It was the best moment of my life to hear my principal breaking the news of my achievement. The only feelings I had were of awe and happiness. My inspirations are my art teacher and my mother who showed faith in my work and skills.”

At the age of 11, passed six O’level subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

A Pakistani girl has become the youngest student in the world to have passed the British Ordinary Level (O’Level) examination.

In addition to this honour, Sitara also holds the title of being the youngest Pakistani candidate of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and successfully attained seven bands out of nine, scoring 7.5 in the testing system.

The little genius from Chiniot (Punjab) has been making headlines across local media but is yet to receive any recognition from the Government of Pakistan.

“We don’t need any sort of monetary aid from the government, we just want the government to recognise that Sitara has made a shining example for Pakistan on the international stage and she is the daughter of Pakistan,” Sitara’s father Ali Akbar told Dawn.com.

Ali Akbar added that the British Council has declared and recognised Sitara’s feat as the world’s youngest student to have passed O’level exams. However, she has only been declared the youngest IELTS candidate in Pakistan, and not across the world, as the British Council is yet to confirm her feat globally.

Speaking to Dawn.com, Sitara’s mother mentioned that her daughter is a great fan of Dr Abdus Salam, Pakistan’s sole Nobel laurete and aims to become a top researcher in the field of biochemistry.

Ibrahim Shahid

A Pakistani school boy has smashed a world record by getting 23 A grades in his O Levels, taking inspiration from the controversial father of Pakistan’s atomic bomb who is hailed a national hero.

Ibrahim Shahid, 17, the son of a university professor of electrical engineering and educated at the private Beacon House School in Islamabad, set the record last month by achieving 23 As in 24 subjects in the Cambridge exam.

“It’s a recognition for my country. This has never been done at O Level,” he told AFP, dutifully thanking his parents and teachers.

“My teacher in Australia told my father ‘Mr Shahid your son is an average student and he never can excel,’ and then I decided to prove myself,” he said in reference to two years he spent in Australia at primary school.

Shahid has yet to decide what to study at university, but said he is drawn to physics and economics, wanting to do something to help his homeland, teethering on the edge of economic meltdown and beset by poverty.

“I want to do something for my country – something unique,” he said. He confessed to being “worried” about Pakistan, which suffers a critical “brain drain” of talent to the West.

Shahid said he takes inspiration from Abdul Qadeer Khan, widely hailed a hero in Pakistan, but reviled in the West after he confessed in 2004 to selling nuclear secrets to Iran, Libya and North Korea.

Until February 2009, Khan was subject to a house of arrest for operating a nuclear proliferation ring, but Washington says he still represents a risk.

“I’m impressed by Doctor Qadeer Khan. I want to serve my country.

“The future generation has to believe in hardwork. They should not be disheartened. They should work hard to make the impossible possible,” he said.

The Cambridge O Level is an internationally recognised qualification for children aged 14 to 16, as part of preparation for university entrance and before end of school examinations.

It is designed especially for the international market and students whose first language may not be English.

Syed Zohaib Asad

A Pakistani student from Beaconhouse has set a new world record by achieving 28 A’s in the University of Cambridge’s O-level examinations.

Nineteen-year-old Syed Zohaib Asad who belongs to Wah Cantonment in Taxilla aced in subjects like world geography and travel tourism in Pakistan.

He had to gather content all by himself, given the reason that these subjects were unique and are not covered well.

Zohaib expressed his concern for Pakistan and said that he’s worried about the rough phase that Pakistan is going through.

But Zohaib is hopeful and holds a belief that the country can be steered out of crisis through hardwork and honesty.

“I see the problems of Pakistan in line with the political scenario, the economic condition and educational structure. I aspire to contribute in the economic sector and will join the ministry of finance one day.”

Zohaib’s father Syed Asad Ali said that he is grateful to Zohaib’s teachers who taught him devotedly.

“It’s a pleasure for me that he has done a great job, not just for our family, Pakistan but the whole Muslim community.”

He further said that Zohaib is going to Canada for pursuing higher studies with an aim of doing something big for his nation when he returns.

Last year, a student in Islamabad, Ibrahim Shahid, had set the previous world record by scoring 23 As in Cambridge O level exams. Shahid, a student of a private school in Islamabad, sat for 24 subjects and scored 23 As.
